The coffee was stormy this morning my friends.

The bikes were well kept and stylish.

Another fine donation. Even at the breakfast they come to us!

Bike Commuters' Roadside Breakfast

The bike commuter breakfast is back!  Stop by this Friday, August 1, between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m. for some fresh coffee, fruit, and baked goods (vegan-friendly options available).  Rain or shine--we'll be there!

Attention all bicycle commuters!  Join us in front of the BL tomorrow (May 2nd) morning between 7:30 and 9:30 for some breakfast & coffee & conversation.  No need to RSVP—just roll on up on your own two wheels!

Well, maybe we won't have Wheaties, but it is time for our monthly Breakfast for Champions of Bike Commuting!  Come on down to the BL between 7:30 and 9:30 on Friday, April 4th.  We'll have coffee, fruit, and assorted baked treats.  If we're not out on the College St. sidewalk, look for us indoors.

I know it's cold and icy and it does NOT feel like March out there, but nevertheless, it's time for coffee & breakfast at the Bike Library on Friday morning.  We'll be there from 7:30 - 9:30 with hot coffee & some breakfasty items.  Ride on down (or walk or take the bus) to the Bike Library and join us!

Roadside Breakfast 9/7

Breakfast was great this morning! We had Cherry Almond muffins, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip muffins, Del's Famous Corn muffins, a (still warm!) zucchini bread from Jay, and, of course, BANANAS! There was a steady stream of cyclists stopping by. The sky was a bit overcast, but the weather was dry and not too hot. Good food, good conversation, good people.

Roadside Breakfast - First of 2007

A fine spread of fresh pressed coffee, 10-grain muffins, apples and tangerines, not to mention tea and hot cocoa.

When Steve & I first arrived around 7am, it was just after dawn. There was a full moon hanging heavy in the west and a murder of crows making their mess as they moved through downtown. The air felt like the lion of spring had already passed. It was weird. We had a small turnout of around ten people. There were many conversations about the weather, not the idle kind, either. An Inconvenient Truth was brought up several times.

Many of us at the Bike Library feel that our bike activism is one way of changing the pattern of environmental damage wrought on this planet over the prior couple centuries. It doesn't stop there, though. Environmental damage is inextricably intertwined with the decay of our communities, the isolation of the individual, class and race segregation, and the apparent failure of consumer capitalism. The bicycle is a tool to engage solutions, but for me it all hinges on community action and participation.

Policymakers are a part of the community, too. That's an important one to remember, since policymakers make decisions that affect us all. To learn more about the folks at Iowa City's city hall, check out:

Another Roadside Breakfast

Yeah, we don't care that it might be snowing Friday morning. We'll just move our breakfast operation inside! Join us for muffins (provided lovingly by Jen) and other goodies this Friday, December 1st from 7:30am until 9:30am.

I know there are determined cyclists out there who will ride no matter the weather, so let's eat!
